Chilltech Beach To Basin Run/Walk

Whangarei, 07 March 2021

About

The Beach to Basin was started by the local Athletics Club and has been around since 1978.

Fast forward to 2022 and the Chilltech Beach to Basin is now organised (still owned by the Athletics Club) by Sport Northland and has now become the most popular fun run in Northland attracting thousands of participants young and old.

The Chilltech Beach to Basin is for people who want to get outside, get active and have fun while socialising with their family and friends. Yes there is a leaderboard and yes there are trophies for placings but this event is for the masses.

This fun run event is for you!

Whats new in 2022

Electronic Timing

Yes, you read that correctly. Electronic timing means everyone who registers into the 6.8km and 10km event will get their name, placing the time shown on a leaderboard.

2km Kids Dash

We love seeing kids get involved, so why not give them their own distance and, even better, no adults! Mums or dads of kids under ten must follow close behind but not get in the way of the event for Health and Safety purposes. This event is not timed.

New 6.8km Start Line

Ok, so we get it, the Onerahi hill can be intimidating, and it can be pretty tough for some people. The new start line will see participants starting from the Onerahi Rugby Fields, where kids can run amuck and entertain themselves with the play gear on offer.

New Finish Line

Due to the congestion of people in the Town Basin when participants are finishing, we have had to look at an alternative route to how we finish; therefore, participants will stick to Riverside (going under Te Matau A Pohe Bridge) finishing on the Canopy Bridge. Check out the course maps on our website.
